LAKELAND, FL - The Hoops for Hunger program was designed in partnership with the Lakeland Magic and The Mosaic Company to raise money to provide meals to local children in need. Now in its fourth year of existence, the program benefits KidsPACK and One More Child, local non-profits aimed at decreasing food insecurity for the children of our Central Florida communities. For every three-point shot made by the Magic during the 2021-22 season, Mosaic donated $200 to the Hoops for Hunger program. Throughout the regular season, the Lakeland Magic made 277 three pointers at the RP Funding Center, totaling $55,400 donated to fight local childhood hunger.

The Lakeland Magic and Mosaic Company have partnered with the Hoops for Hunger program each season since 2018. After this year’s record amount, the program has now donated a total of $145,500 to KidsPACK and One More Child to help feed the Central Florida community.

“Partnering with the Lakeland Magic and supporting the Hoops for Hunger program embodies Mosaic’s mission to be a thoughtful and engaged neighbor who seeks relationships with organizations that are making a difference in the community,” said Morgan Odum, Mosaic Public Affairs Specialist. “KidsPACK and One More Child have made, and will continue to make, a positive difference in the local community as they work to ensure children and their families do no go hungry.”

“Fighting local hunger is one of the Lakeland Magic’s main community initiatives and we are proud to continue to help feeding our community alongside The Mosaic Company,” said Hans Steinbrenner, President of the Lakeland Magic. “Over the last four years, over $145,000 has been donated through our Hoops for Hunger and we are thrilled to announce another record amount this season. We are committed to continuing the fight against food insecurity in our community.”

The Lakeland Magic finished the 2021-22 season third in the NBA G League in both three pointers made and three-point percentage. Magic guard Devin Cannady finished with the second highest three-point percentage in the league, shooting nearly 47 percent from behind the arch. Aleem Ford and BJ Johnson led Lakeland in total three pointers made with 99 and 83 respectively.

A special check presentation ceremony featuring the Lakeland Magic, Mosaic Company, KidsPACK and One More Child was held at the Lakeland Magic’s final game of the season on Saturday, April 2 at the RP Funding Center.
